The inspiration for Famine Mother & Children was the image of Bridget O’Donnel and her children. Additionally, he has completed several significant commissions including The Famine Ship at the United Nations Plaza in New York City, the National Famine Memorial in County Mayo and Megalithic Memory in Dublin.įamine Mother & Children is one of several works by Behan in the collection at IGHM. He has received many honors and is a member of the Royal Hibernian Academy. Behan studied and trained at the National College of Art & Design (Dublin), Ealing Art College (London) and the Royal Academy School (Oslo).
